It’s been a few years since we’ve seen such high levels of tourism in Hawai’i. The influx is welcomed by diving businesses alike. Overall, this is positive news! 🥳
But what does this mean for our freelance diving community? During the pandemic, many dive shops were forced to operate at a reduced capacity. As tourism begins to ramp up again, some dive shops are now finding it difficult to keep up with the high demand. This is resulting in many freelancers being snapped up to help run courses and fun dives.
Unfortunately, what we’re hearing from instructors is that they are being overworked, with little say over their schedules. Some fear losing their jobs if they challenge managers or request time off. This doesn’t seem fair.
As a member of Synergy Diving, you decide what hours you work, what diving experiences you offer, and how much you charge. Best of all? We don’t charge commission so what you make is yours to take home. This is our promise to you.
Dive shops remain an important part of our diving community, however. They provide access to indoor training pools, diving equipment, rentals, boats, as well as assist in marketing diving-related activities. But the truth is a lot of this could also be achieved if the freelance community - instructors, boat captains, and photographers - worked together to offer the same services without any drawbacks. At Synergy Diving, we provide you with the mechanism to do just that!
